MY NEW WHITE WINTER COAT!

Finally finished!
I started the coat this summer. Then I ran out of yarn,
and my LS could not supply me.
At last I purchased it on a net-store, and here it is!
Photo session with my husband on the beach yesterday.
Beautiful weather, cold though, so the coat was perfect!
The head-band and the fingerless gloves will be listed too!

LUCET- CAN'T BELIEVE I NEVER HEARD ABOUT IT!

This is the coolest way to make cords - ever!
Where was this technique when I needed it?!

The best thing is - the cord comes out squared.
This is perfect for my rope-soles.
I found this ancient manner of making strings, ropes, cords, on Pinrest!
The Lucet, also called Knitting-Fork or Chain-Fork, is an old technique,
maybe as far back as to the Vikings! Produce a strong, non-stretching braid.
All kind of materials can be used, thin and thick!

It's really strange that in my long crafty life, I've never come upon this technique.
The only gear you need, is a kind of  "fork", and the cord is made by lifting one loop over the other,
while turning the "fork" CW. See a public Tutorial here on YouTube.
I grabbed my pin-magnet, the only thing in my studio that looked like a Lucet,
and started right away for a test.
The cord on the image above, I made in 10 minutes!
Very easy to learn, and fun! Works up fast, and is steady,
with lot of "stitch-loops" to insert the hook in!
For assembling slippers to soles, that is!

So my next rope-soles are made with a Lucet!

.
These people make handmade Lucets in all shapes and sizes.

ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE: THE ONE AND ONLY… ROPE-SOLE! PART 2 .

Tailored Sole-Method, Suitable for any foot-size and shoe-project!

YESS!! They are born!
This sole is my first and original idea, in order to turn
crochet slippers into street shoes!
I’ve been obsessed by this project for months,
and I’m so happy with the simpleness of the final result,
which I’m now shearing with you!
After the success with The Crochet Tray-Sole
I feel confident that you can handle this challenge too!
The crochet tray-sole is super, but this one is the best!
It’s strong, durable, comfortable, and has a cool look!
And is sooo easy and fast to make!

This was fun! I hope my sister fits them.
So, I'm actually walking the streets with crochet slippers!

Here the sole is more visible.

No doubt who's shoes these are!

PROTECTIVE CROCHET SOLES FOR SOCKS AND SLIPPERS

And while I'm at it (see prev post) I'll show you what a pair of crochet soles can do to any sock or slipper! We all know that, sadly enough, all socks or slippers, knitted or crocheted, do not have a long wearing time before they're worn out. And the critical spot is the heels! If all these beautiful socks I was talking about, really are for WEARING, it's really too bad! All that work! I don't say that every sock would look pretty with a sole, but at least slippers!

Put crochet soles on your slippers and socks, for protection and to extend their life-time! And it looks great! And you know what; with a special treatment you can wear you creations on the STREET! I could walk the streets of Rome with these!  I think.
Go here to see Tutorial for HOW TO!

KNEE-HIGH CROCHET WINTER SOCKS

Time to cuddle up, snuggle in and make it cozy in our more or less freezing place on Earth!
I'm the cold-feet kind of person, I'm addicted to socks. I've long wanted to crochet a pair of real chunky and knee-high socks. And I'm soo envious on these super-clever knitters, that make the most beautiful socks with incredible patterns on, and of course in a fine sock yarn, for me that would be a never ending story! So I desired to do it my way. Inspired by my homeland's knitting traditions, I wanted to make "lice" on my crochet socks. Not done before on a dc-crochet garment, as far as I have discovered on my way around the internet. But I found a nice way to do it, and it came out as I wanted.

The pattern was finished tonight, so you can purchase it and start working them right away. Go here for instant download in my  Ravelry store!

PART 2, THE CROCHET SOLES AND TREATMENT FOR WALKING THE STREETS WITH YOUR CROCHET SHOES!

I had Espadrilles in mind when I designed these shoes! In US they call them Toms I think.
Originally very simple handmade canvas shoes, with rope-soles, produced in Spain for hundreds of years. When the charter vacation traffic started in the -70’ties, they were discovered by the young and beautiful as cool, cheep and comfortable summer-shoes! Yes, I was there, and I still love these shoes! All for the same reasons, even as the originals are difficult to find any more, the mass production industry has taken over.
But…. no problem, we can make our own Espadrilles!
The most simple toe/up crochet slippers can be transferred into shoes! All we need, is to assemble an inner- and an outer sole to the slippers!

And finally, adding a treatment to the soles, which will make your indoor shoes to outdoor shoes! Yes, you can wear them on the street as normal shoes! That’s the coolest part!
I’ll show you how, step by step; the slippers, the innersoles, the outer soles and the sole treatment! It’s sooo simple! And great fun! Perfect project for craft-lovers! The treatment protects the soles against dirt, dust, wear and tear. And it’s just wonderful to walk on! So soft and flexible! Can you imagine, this stuff turns your home slippers to street shoes! That opens some views! And it’s so simple! Not expensive, and it’s available in any hardware store!
OK, let’s do it!

HOW TO TURN CROCHET SLIPPERS INTO STREET SHOES!

For weeks I have worked with figuring out how to transform my on-piece, toe/up crochet slippers, into shoes to wear outside. I mean, walking the streets!
First I had to find out a super easy way to work the crochet soles. I don’t know about you, but I really dislike making crochet soles! That’s why I end up working one-piece slippers. But there is after all more options and advantages with a sole. The soles starting in the middle, working in rounds, are very pretty, but they never seem to come out right, ending up too long, or too wide, or the opposite, or all above! Even as I know the maths for these soles. Baby-booties is one thing, sooner or later they fits. For children and adults it’s different, the soles have to fit!
TRAY SOLES:So I ended up with a forth and back-sole. Very simple maths, and adjustable for any size, yarn, and gauge! And I designed a border-edge to the basic sole, (the tray) to assemble the slippers into! Piece of cake! And there are handmade inner soles involved! Look at this:
With the crochet soles on place, I just had to find a material to prepare them with. Done! My crochet shoes are already in use, walking the streets of Rome! The instruction for all this story, ended up 17 pages long. So I had to split it.
Part 1: White Lace Espadrilles, the basic slippers, are already listed on Ravelry tonight. Here:
This was fun, but exhausting! I love the shoes! Part 2 coming up soon! Have a wonderful night!
Best, Sophie and Me

HOME SHOES - SUPER SIMPLE SOPHIE and ME-Slippers

The new crochet slipper pattern the world can not survive without!
So.. I finally managed to coordinate all the info for slipper sizes for babies to adult!
Nothing special really about these indoor shoes, all though they do have a  better
solution for the heel and the instep than the ordinary toe/up shoes around.
They fit perfectly well!
Sophie needed white shoes for a photo-shooting, something fast worked and
simple, and they should look like real shoes, to style for any occasion.
So I designed this shoe-pattern. And I have an ulterior motive too,
soon you can update your home shoes to street shoes! Literally!

The Pineapple Crochet Stitch

I found this stitch on Pinrest, a very interesting place for collectors!
I'm always looking for crochet stitches that look like knitting, so I was quite exited to try it out.
First of  all, to work the pattern, you need to brake yarn for every row,
you can not turn and work back. Or you must work in rounds.
After the 2 first rows, see image, I worked forth and back, and achieved another pattern.
The pattern is nice enough, but not as flat as I imagined.
So......not an alternative to knitting!!

SOPHIE AND ME IN THE GARDEN STUDIO, WORKING!

New project on the hook!
When I'm between patterns, nothing much is happening on my blog. Meaning also that I'm working with some kind of project! At the moment Sophie and me are making our selves comfy in the garden, with anything we need to work. A new summer dress is on the hook, and super-simple one-piece indoor-shoes.
That's the blessing with crocheting; you can work anywhere! And outside in the summer is the best!
As you can see, I've got myself a brand new laptop. I was so tiered of being tucked away in my indoor studio on lovely summer days, working with patterns. So a laptop would do it. I've never had a laptop before. One thing I didn't take in consideration, was that it's talking to me in Italian (Italian programmed), which I can handle. But I was SOOO disappointed of the shiny, mirror-like screen! It's not possible to see a thing as long as it's day light. I've tried any possible cover-up and cover-over; what I see is myself and the surroundings behind me! Grrrrrrrr!! It's really frustrating! The brains inventing this fabulous indoor-and-night-working-screen must be men! Anyone have a solution??
For the rest everything is fine!
Best,
Sophie and Me!
